NICOLA FORMICHETTI POP-UP SHOP

Set Design/Visual Merchandising for the Nicola Formichetti Pop-Up Shop 
NY Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012









Re-contextuaized the brand, Uniqlo to have a more progressive aesthetic for the Nicola Formichetti Pop-Up Shop. 
The first project: to reconstruct iconic Uniqlo garments creating sculptural outfits worn on mannequins within the store. (Images#1,2,3,5,6,7)
The second project: to make a window display, backdrop and props for the release of the Uniqlo IPJ collection (Image #4).

HE JUST STOOD THERE...





Details of Performance:
Men rotate in the role of representing a little-league trophy and The David. One of the performers dresses and undresses fellow performers as they mount the pedestal to become a living sculpture that is a representation of a sculpture.


Materials:
Machine knitted garments, shell of one desk cabinet from prior works, silicone, body hair, deodorant.
Dimensions:

Details of Performance:
Two women sit still on felt seats within an installation; a cat’s cradle is formed between their bodies through an extension that grows from their outfits, thus connecting the two women.

Machine knitted garments, hand made felt, carpet padding, cowhide, craft felt, polyurethane desk vessels, hair gel, silicone, body hair, deodorant, television, flock, cast wax trophy

Details of Performance:
Performance sectioned into fifteen-minute quarters.


First Quarter: Top of desk’s surface shaved with electric razors and two men shave one another’s body hair with electric razors.
Second Quarter: Top of desk is removed and the legs are separated. Two men shave one leg of the desk, as the other two men break apart the other leg of the desk with hammers and chisels.
Third Quarter: The two men who are shaving the desk’s leg that was intact begin to shave the surfaces of the desk leg that has been broken apart as the other two men break apart the desk’s leg that was just shaved.
Fourth Quarter: The two men who were breaking apart the desk’s legs carry the top of the desk to the front of the space and begin to smother it with sticks of deodorant as the other two men begin to shave one another’s bodies.

Machine Knitted outfits with rubber insets, found desk, deodorant, hair gel, electric razors, hammers, chisels, Bic razors, carpet padding, felt, paint, flock, rabbit fur, TY beanie babies, Axe body spray.
